Icy Trails

Sunday’s high temperature was about 39 degrees, and we got a bit of rain. Monday morning a cold front came in and everything froze very quickly. This morning I walked out on a few trails, #7 in Grayling, #679 and #7 in Frederic. Trails were very hard with ice, although they had frozen shortly after being groomed. There’s still lots of snow out there. I don’t think we’ll see dirt on the trails much this winter — we just need a bit of soft snow on top of that ice. Fortunately there is a bit of snow in the forecast for this week, now through Thursday. Off-trail riding conditions should be good, as I didn’t find much of an ice crust on the snow off of the trails.

Groomers are trying to run this week. I’ll update again when I hear more information from the groomers or snowmobilers. For now, though, I’d rather not send out our snowmobiles.
